What is Offsite Backup?
Offsite backup is the process of backing up data to a remote facility which stores information on infrastructure which exists outside of your core IT systems.
Much like backing up data onsite, it involves the use of a facility or storage media. However, this storage infrastructure is not located on the same premises as your organisation’s crucial systems, networks and computing hardware.
Offsite backup can also be called offsite data backup or offsite data protection. It is often deployed to ensure data is remotely accessible should your facilities be damaged or stolen, or to secure data in a high-security remote facility isolated from core organisational functions.
Advantages of offsite data backup include remote file access from any networked location via FTP or internet connection, data preservation in the event of on premises catastrophe, and the instant sharing of backed up data to multiple business locations.

Once at the data centre your backups can be archived to tape indefinitely, depending on your business requirements and the amount of data to be backed up
